Greetings, friends, and welcome everyone to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like to game on a phone or tablet, this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures.

Alto’s Adventure

Alto’s Adventure is an endless snowboarding odyssey developed by Team Alto and published by Snowman and Noodlecake Studios. This side-scrolling, runner-style game was released for almost every platform in 2015. Oh, no, your llamas have escaped their pen and are running down the mountain. Hop on a snowboard and shred down that mountain to catch as many llamas as possible. You have two tries to get as far down the mountain as you can.

What would a snowboarding game be without tricks? The options here are limited to backflips and grinding, but it still takes some skill. Timing is key, like knowing whether or not you have enough time to go for that double backflip (you usually don’t). The more tricks you land, the longer your scarf gets. Simplicity is the beauty of this game, well, that and the beautiful backgrounds.

Collect coins to purchase items that will help you through future runs. You can also use these coins to skip the leveling and buy the other five characters immediately. Yes, one of them is a llama, and his name is Felipe. He is adorable, and suddenly, my life goal became to unlock that llama. Speaking of llamas, grab as many as possible on your way down the mountain for maximum points.

The stylistic and breathtaking backgrounds mirror the easygoing gameplay style. Glide through forests, mountains and villages, all while the sun rises and sets behind you. Don’t get too distracted by the lovely landscapes, though. Obstacles like rocks or campfires will launch you from your board if you fail to jump in time.

Our Adventure Ends Here

The stress of the holidays and just life generally had me looking for something to soothe my deep-fried brain. Alto’s Adventures is exactly what I was looking for. The calming, atmospheric soundtrack immediately set my mind at ease. Simplistic yet gorgeous landscapes went easy on my tired eyes. I did not have to learn many rules and was not overwhelmed with tons of gameplay options. Just watching, running and jumping. This game is relaxing, simple and easy to learn.

The fact that you can jump in and do a couple of runs quickly is also a plus. This is great for those who cannot sink hours into a game. The scoring system is a beat-your-own-best deal, so there is no pressure or competition. If you are looking for a quick dose of serotonin, Alto’s Adventure is just what the doctor ordered.

Alto’s Adventure is free in the Google Play Store and $7.99 in the App Store.
